This year’s film is the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and the event will feature Dr. Peter Ostrum, the actor who played “Charlie Bucket” in the 1971 film.

Dr. Ostrum, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, was 12 years old when he was selected for Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

Although he enjoyed shooting the film, “Charlie Bucket” would be the only film role he would play.

Shortly after returning home from filming Willy Wonka in Munich, Germany, Peter’s family acquired a horse and the veterinarian who cared for the animal left a lasting impression on Peter.

Although Peter contemplated a return to Hollywood, he ultimately decided to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine and in 1984 he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Ostrum is currently a senior partner of a veterinary clinic in Lowville, NY.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Ostrum to Oswego,” said Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club President Jim Cloonan. “The original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is an iconic film and it will be a rare treat to listen to Dr. Ostrum talk about his experiences, both related to the film and related to his current career as a veterinarian.”

Tickets for the event are $25 for adults, $15 for children age 6-12 and $5 for children age 5 and under.

Tickets will include a social hour at 5 p.m., pasta buffet dinner at 6 p.m., a talk by Dr. Ostrum, a showing of the original 1971 film, a chocolate fountain and a “Wonka Bar” made by local chocolatier Amy Stone-Lear of Man in the Moon Candies.

There will also be raffles at the event with prizes donated by several local businesses.

Tickets may be purchased at JP Jewelers, Lake Ontario Antiques, Man in the Moon Candies or at the Oswego Tea Company.

Leading up to the event, Man in the Moon Candies will be selling special “Wonka Bars” where five Golden Tickets will randomly be hidden.

If someone finds a Golden Ticket they will receive a free ticket to the October 22 event.

If a Golden Ticket is found by a child, they will receive a free ticket to the event, as well as a free ticket for an adult to accompany them.

Proceeds from Dinner and a Movie will benefit the Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club, the Oswego County Humane Society and the Oswego High School Interact Club.

“Seating is limited and we expect this to be a sell-out event; so don’t wait to get your tickets,” said Cloonan.
