Elmira blanks Oswego State women’s ice hockey team

Plattsburgh, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team fell 3-0 to No. 2 Elmira in the second ECAC Women’s West Semifinal matchup at Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday night.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 17-9-1 on the year while the Soaring Eagles advance to face No. 1 Plattsburgh in the championship game on Sunday.

Despite a sloppy first period for both teams, Elmira emerged with a 1-0 lead at the end of one. A couple of passes from Brooke Wilgosh and Ashley Ryan set up Tanis Lamoureux for a power-play goal from the left circle with 18 seconds left in the opening period.

Elmira (21-4-1) outshot Oswego State by a margin of 13-6 in the second period, but the Soaring Eagles had nothing to show for it with the score remaining 1-0 in favor of Elmira at the end of two periods.

The Soaring Eagles pulled goaltender Lisa Marshall on the delayed penalty call in the third, allowing Brooke Wilgosh to net an extra-attacker goal at the 8:16 mark to give Elmira a 2-0 lead. Erin Weston sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 22 seconds left in regulation.

Oswego started Tori Travato between the pipes as she made 22 saves in the loss.

The Lakers faced six man-down situations in the contest and killed off five of those penalties.
