Syracuse, NY – Seven of the ten Empower Federal Credit Union college scholarship recipients are students from Oswego County. Empower has awarded $7,000 in scholarships to ten high school seniors from the class of 2009, in Oswego, Onondaga, Montgomery, and Erie Counties.

The Oswego County seven include Maureen Newman, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School, Parish; Ashley Welsch, Oswego High School, Oswego; Halie Squires, Mexico High School, Mexico; and Alissa McCaffrey, Danielle LaLone, Michelle Peck, and Mitchell Switzer, John C. The students, members of Empower FCU, were chosen based on their outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements. Five of the awards are given in honor of Empower’s first CEO, Bill Johnson, and late members Sara Webster, and Heidi Allen. These funds may be applied toward attending any accredited college, business or trade school.
