‘Mockingbird’ Opens This Weekend

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Players present area residents with the rare opportunity to see Harper Lee’s critically acclaimed, “To Kill a Mockingbird” over the next two weekends.

A fine team of actors has been working for weeks to fine-tune this classic tale in the 1930s period in which the actual event, upon which the book was later written, occurred.

Lee spent two and a half years writing, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and at one point became so frustrated that she tossed the manuscript out the window into the snow.

Fortunately, her editor made her retrieve and finish it; the result being a Pulitzer Prize.

Of her manuscript, she is quoted as saying, “I never expected any sort of success with ‘Mockingbird.’ I was hoping for a merciful death at the hands of the reviewers…”

Instead she found public acceptance and her book has never been out of print in hardcover or paperback and has become part of the standard literature curriculum.

“Mockingbird” will have its opening performance April 8 at 8 p.m. with additional performances April 9, 8 p.m.; April  15 and 16 at 8 p.m. and a Sunday matinee April 17 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10/adults, $8/seniors and $7/students and may be reserved by calling the Players’ Box Office at 315-343-5138. missing or outdated ad config
