‘Pageant Of Champions’ Steps Off Saturday

OSWEGO, NY – This Saturday the annual Marching Buccaneers “Pageant of Champions” will unfold beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wilber Field in Oswego.  This is always one of the most emotional shows of the year.

Oswego High color guard and band members want to put on a crowd pleasing show before their hometown fans. However, there is also another emotional setting as it is the final “Pageant of Champions” for the OHS seniors.

This year senior Emilie Benigno will lead the band onto the field in exhibition, but she will not only be directly nearly 100 classmates, but a substantial number of seniors.

The seniors will all be recognized prior to the final retreat of the evening.

This Saturday the “Pageant of Champions” competition will commence at 6:30 p.m. with Auburn and following the Maroons will be Jordan-Elbridge, East Syracuse-Minoa, and then National Division members West Genesee, Victor, Cicero-North Syracuse, and Liverpool before an exhibition by the Marching Buccaneers.

Last weekend the Marching Bucs showed tremendous improvement in week two of the New York State Field Band Conference competition.

Oswego improved its score by four points over the first week of the year to earn at 76.15 in National Division competition.  The CNS show was won by West Genesee with an 84.55 and following the Wildcats were Victor 82.55, Liverpool 81.15, Webster 77.70 and Oswego 76.15.

Tickets will be available at the door at Joe Wilber Field on Saturday evening and as always a huge crowd is expected to enjoy an evening listening to outstanding high school musicians and savoring the colorful display of eight top Central New York musical organizations.
