The season opens Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre with “Magdalen.” This one-woman play written by Erin Layton is inspired by the true stories of women and girls who labored in Ireland’s Magdalen Laundries during the mid-20th century. This performance brings light to the unknown and painful chapter of Ireland’s past exploring women, religious figures and other ghosts connected to its history.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., Waterman Theatre will welcome Kings Return, a Dallas-based four-piece vocal group praised for their dynamic a cappella performances. The group consists of Vaughn Faison, Gabe Kunda, JE McKissic and Jamall Williams blending R&B, jazz, gospel and pop with traditional vocal foundations. The Oswego High School Chamber Singers will open the performance. Admission for all K-12 students is free thanks to support from the Richard A. Shineman Foundation.
The series continues Thursday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m., in Waterman Theatre with Jody Sperling/Time Lapse Dance. The New York-based dance company uses choreography, media and cross-disciplinary skills to explore relationships between the human body and the environment. By combining dance with topics of environmental science, visual art, music and media, the company examines sustainability, climate justice and the connection between people and the natural world.
ARTSwego closes its season with Liminal Blue, a projection animation by Los Angeles-based transdisciplinary artist Isabel Beavers, from April 2 through April 30, 2027. The site-specific work will be projected onto a waterscreen floating on Glimmerglass Lagoon from 7:30 to 10 p.m. daily. Beavers will conduct research at Oswego during fall 2026 to develop the animation, which will draw inspirations from the university’s unique lakeside setting.
“Liminal Blue is presented in partnership with the concurrent “HYDROS: A World Held by Water” exhibition in Tyler Art Gallery which was co-curated by Beavers and gallery director Davana Robedee. The Liminal Blue projection, HYDROS exhibition, and related gallery programming are free and open to the public with no tickets required.”
Admission to all other ARTSwego events is free for SUNY Oswego students; $18 for staff, faculty and alumni; $23 for the general public; and $6 for non-Oswego students; these prices include all related fees.
