ndrew’s Wine Cellar will welcome Chilean Winemaker Oscar Salas, of Terra Andina Winery, to a wine tasting event on Saturday, October 18th from 1-5 p.m.

Salas will join Imagine Moore Winery’s Tim Moore, and Cascata Winery Owner Kurtis Vondracek at the event.

“We’re very pleased to have Oscar Salas and our other winemakers join us for our October wine tasting event,” said Andrew Bowman, owner of Andrew’s Wine Cellar. “The taste of Chile combined with two wonderful vineyards from the Finger Lakes region should make for a wonderful venue.”

Salas is a graduate of Pontificia Universidad Catolica De Chile as Agricultural Engineer with mention in Pomology and Enology.  After living in the United States, he worked as a viticultor for some years before joining named wineries in Chile (Santa Rita and Cousino Macul) and the United States (Hartford family wines).  Oscar works at the vineyards the whole growing season, being responsible of 10 red and 5 white varieties located in more than 25 different vineyards in a 1300 kms range along the country.

He makes the wine hand-to-hand with Chief Winemaker Stefano Gandolini Abrosoli, using innovative skills and ultimate technology taking care of the whole winemaking process from the crushing of the grapes to the bottle.

“What a great opportunity to get a true sense of the wonderful vineyards of the Andes – with the Terra Andina products,” Bowman added.

Acquired in 2001 by the Claro wine group, Terra Andina is an innovator within the Chilean wine industry. By blending grapes from different valleys with different micro-climates and soil conditions, Terra Andina takes full advantage of the richness and diversity of Chile’s different wine growing regions. A contemporary, fresh and innovative winery free of taboos, Terra Andina is focused on making quality wines that capture the full potential of Chilean viticulture.

Two additional vineyards from the Finger Lakes region will also be showcased at the upcoming event, according to Bowman.

Imagine Moore Winery, the first winery to be established in the Naples Valley in 100 years, is situated in a circa 1865 renovated barn, that provides beautiful views of the valley and region. Tim Moore, the owner of Imagine Moore Winery, studied Vitculture/Enology at the University of California at Davis. Moore also worked throughout the wine-growing regions of Austria, as well as studying at Klosterneuburg Institute of Wine & Fruit. He brings ten years of winemaking and grape-growing experience in the Finger Lakes to Imagine Moore.

Cascata Winery at The Professor’s Place in Watkins Glen, New York, is a boutique winery whose wines are made by outstanding winemakers from some of the finest grapes grown in the Finger Lakes’ vineyards.

Owner Kurtis Vondracek continues a tradition of award-winning wines at Cascata, made popular by former owners and professors K. Coralee Burch and the late David Hannie.

The event will be held at Andrew’s Wine Cellar at 195 West First Street in the Canal Commons in Oswego, October 18th from 1-5 p.m. For more information, call Andrew’s Wine Cellar at (315) 342-5850.
