Christmas Cantata To Be Performed In Red Creek

Tri-County Singers will be performing the Christmas cantata “Morning Star” by Joseph Martin under the direction of Abel Searor with accompaniment provided by Terry Pawlenko. This cantata tells the Christmas story using the idea of Christ as the Morning Star as a recurring theme throughout. Many familiar carols such as “Joy to the World” as well as lesser known carols are combined to tell the story. The choir will conclude the cantata with “For Unto Us a Child is Born” from Handel’s “Messiah.”

The cantata will be performed on Sunday, December 13th, 2009 at 3pm at the Red Creek Westbury United Methodist Church, Sunday, December 20th at 3pm at the State Street United Methodist Church in Fulton and Sunday, December 27th at 5pm at the West Baptist Church, Oswego. Tri-County Singers is an ecumenical choir with singers residing in Oswego, Cayuga, and Wayne counties. The choir is made up of members from a variety of different area churches. The group has been presenting seasonal cantatas since Christmas 2003. Abel Searor is the co-director of the group, along with Terry Pawlenko they have presented a variety of works ranging from Handel’s “Messiah” and Stainer’s “The Crucifixion” to more modern works like Tom Fettke’s “The Majesty and Glory of Christmas”, and Joseph Martin’s “The Rose of Calvary” Terry Pawlenko serves as the Choir Director at Red Creek Westbury United Methodist Church. Abel Searor is the organist at West Baptist Church, Oswego, and State Street United Methodist Church.
