"Circles and Squares Compilation," a collaborative print, characterizes the explorations of SUNY Oswego student printmakers in monotypes and monoprints on display in "Circles and Squares: One-of-a-Kind Prints" from Oct. 10 to Nov. 15 at Oswego State Downtown, 186 W. First St. in Oswego.
OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego student printmakers will display their circular- and square-format monotypes and monoprints starting Oct. 10, at Tyler Art Gallery at Oswego State Downtown.
“Circles and Squares: One-of-a-Kind Prints” will feature a free public artists’ reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24, at the downtown gallery and branch of the College Store at the corner of West First and Bridge streets in Oswego.
The exhibition will run through Nov. 15.
The artists will display their monotypes — unique prints transferred to paper from pigments on a plate — or more painterly monoprints, often presented in a series where the underlying image is inked on a plate and the layers atop it evolve. The exhibitors are Kyle Benwitz, Benjamin Bradley, Krysten Figueroa, Emily Hinckley, Alexandra Leclerc, Jennifer Osborne, Briese Penaherrera, Tianna Powers, Chancery Talcott and Julio Valenzuela.
The artists explored circular- and square-format screenprints using multiple layers and in a variety of styles, from deeply abstract to highly representational, according to exhibition coordinator Amy Bartell of the SUNY Oswego art department.
Oswego State Downtown store and gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays until the Oswego Farmers’ Market closes for the season and until 6 p.m. thereafter, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
