Fiddlers’ Picnic Festival in Osceola July 24-26 Features Top North American Fiddlers

Canadian fiddling sensation Shane Cook will be the featured entertainer at the N.Y. State Old Tyme Fiddlers’ Association’s annual Fiddlers’ Picnic Festival, Friday, July 24th through Sunday, July 26th at the North American Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame and Museum, 1121 Comins Road, Osceola.

One of the most highly awarded Canadian fiddlers, and retired from competitive fiddling while still in his mid-twenties, Shane is a three-time Canadian Open National Fiddle Champion, a three-time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion, a Grand North American Fiddle Champion and the only Canadian ever to have won the US Grand National Fiddle Championship, and at just 17 years of age. The Canadian Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame ranks him “at the top of the short list of the finest fiddlers in the world today.”

Shane and his accompanist Jake Charron will give workshops in Fiddling and Backup Piano and Guitar from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday July 24th. The cost for the workshops is $35 including lunch, plus free admission to Friday night’s program. No advance registration is necessary.

Shane and Jake will also give free workshops in Fiddle and Backup Piano and Guitar at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, July 25th. A free workshop in Step Dancing will also be given Saturday at 9:30 a.m. by a young champion step dancer, who will dance during their performances. Shane’s performances are scheduled at six times throughout the weekend – Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night, and Sunday afternoon.

The cost for the Festival is $5 per day or $3 for Saturday evening only – 16 and under admitted free all weekend. This event is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
