Final Oswego City Band Concert Features Special Guest

The final concert of the 2011 Sunset Concert Series will feature WCNY-FM radio personality Bruce Paulsen. The concert is scheduled for August 24th @ 7:00pm in Breitbeck Park. Mr. Paulsen will appear with City Band, directed by Donald Goodness. The theme of this concert is a “Tribute to Copland” in which the music of the 20th century American composer Aaron Copland will be featured. Mr. Paulsen will be providing narration for Copland’s well known The Lincoln Portrait. Other selections by Copland to be performed include Simple Gifts and Shaker Dance, The Promise of Living portions of Fanfare for the Common Man and Quiet City.

Aaron Copland is considered to be “the dean of American music.” He was active as a composer of original material during the first half of the twentieth century. Generations of younger composers have followed the style he established. “It is fitting that we invite someone of the stature of Bruce Paulsen to pay tribute to Aaron Copland,” said band director Donald Goodness. “We are very pleased to have him join City Band for this concert. I hope that the whole community will turn out.”
