Fulton Arts Scene to Hold Auditions for Quirky Comedy with a “Bite”

FULTON – The story of a young Irish girl whose desire to be special turns on its head through a unique act of divine intervention will come to the stage in Fulton as The Arts Scene at CNY Community Arts Center prepares to hold auditions for Luke Yankee’s “The Jesus Hickey.”

Auditions will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 8^th and 9^th from 6:30-9PM at the Center located at 121 Cayuga Street, Fulton, NY. All roles are open; auditionees should be 18 years of age or older.  No preparation is necessary. Auditionees will read scenes from the script.

Set not too long ago in Silgo, Ireland, the modern fable centers around Agnes Flynn, a simple girl from a poor family who has been raised by Grandmaire, her outspoken, deliciously coarse grandmother and her father, Sean, a scrappy dockworker. When Agnes goes out necking with Seamus, the local “bad boy”, she comes home with a hickey… in the shape of Jesus! Soon, she develops mystical, healing powers that bring fame and fortune to her family and the rundown, seaport town.

The production is under the direction of William Edward White, who previously directed two other works by Yankee: “The Man Who Killed the Cure” and “The Last Lifeboat.”

The characters are:

Agnes Flynn – (Female, 19-22) A simple, working-class, Irish girl. Sweet, vulnerable and lovable.

Grandmaire – (Female, 60s-70s) Agnes’ grandmother. A no-nonsense, older Irish woman with a big heart and a bawdy sense of humor.

Sean Flynn – (Male, 40s) Agnes’ father. A tough, Irish laborer.

Seamus O’Malley – (Male, 19-22)  A local “bad boy” who wants to be Agnes’ boyfriend. Not too bright. (also plays German Man #2)

Father Boyle – (Male, 40s +) A befuddled, Irish priest. (also plays The Frenchman)

Paddy Martin – (Male 40s+) A kindly, Irish working man. (also plays German Man #1)

Various voice-over announcers – male and female.
