OSWEGO COUNTY—Oswego Music Hall continues its Open Mic Friday series on Friday, September 26. Show begins at 7:00 PM; sign-ups at 6:30.
Guest Host, Jim Sheridan leads off Open Mic Friday and will be followed by performers who sign up that night. Doors open at 6:30 with sign-ups taking place then and throughout the evening, as space allows. Musicians typically play three songs each.
Jim is a vocalist and guitarist from the Syracuse area who is currently working as a solo artist, in an acoustic duo with one of his sons, and as a member of the Irish folk group, The Flyin’ Column. While his musical interests are varied, he enjoys classic rock, singer songwriter, country, folk, and traditional Americana. Jim credits playing at open mic’s with exposing him to invaluable feedback and helping him gain confidence as a performer and song writer. He is a very appreciative member of the Syracuse chapter of The Guitar League.
All ages and experience levels are welcome. Budding performers, singer-songwriters and musicians of all genres are given an opportunity to perform in a supportive environment using cutting edge professional sound and lighting equipment.
Scheduling guest hosts for Open Mic Fridays is Coordinator Bryan Dickenson. Open Mics are usually held on the Friday night prior to Saturday’s National Stage concert.
The following evening, on September 27, the season continues with Windborne returning to the National Stage.
“The best musical discovery of the year…Stunningly powerful vocal harmony…Windborne sets a new bar for folk harmony singing today” – Brian O’Donovan, NPR.
Hailed as “the most exciting vocal group in a generation,” internationally acclaimed vocal
ensemble Windborne is known for their stunningly powerful arrangements and their ability to
shift effortlessly between drastically different styles of traditional music within the same concert. While their musical knowledge spans many continents and cultures, they remain deeply rooted in the American singing traditions they have embodied since childhood.
Praised for “the purity of their voices, strength of their material, and attention to detail in their arrangements,” Lynn Rowan, Will Rowan, Lauren Breunig, and Jeremy Carter-Gordon share a vibrant energy onstage – their connection to each other and to the music clearly evident. They educate as they entertain, telling stories about the music and explaining the characteristics and stylistic elements of the traditions in which they sing.
