Guest Host Larry Kyle Leads Off Oswego Music Hall Open Mic Friday, April 11

OSWEGO —Oswego Music Hall continues its Open Mic Friday series on Friday, April 11. Show begins at 7:00 PM; sign-ups at 6:30.

Guest Host, Larry Kyle, leads off Open Mic Friday and will be followed by performers who sign up that night. Doors open at 6:30 with sign-ups taking place then and throughout the evening, as space allows. Musicians typically play three songs each.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Budding performers, singer-songwriters and musicians of all genres are given an opportunity to perform in a supportive environment using cutting edge professional sound and lighting equipment.

Being a veteran and friend of the music scene, Larry Kyle has performed over the course of six decades starting in 1977! He has released five original albums in his brothers-based blues group, DAMDOG. That is over seventy-five self-penned songs and has written hundreds more. Not only performing live with his band, he does justice to an acoustic solo and duo act in which he incorporates guitar, harmonica, vocals, foot percussion, slide guitar, kazoo and more to create a unique live show! With over 150 dates a year under his belt, his passion still burns hot. For further information visit https://www.facebook.com/larry.kyle.37.

Scheduling guest hosts for Open Mic Fridays is Coordinator Bryan Dickenson. Open Mics are held on the Friday night prior to Saturday’s National Stage concert.

The following evening, on April 12, the season continues with Tony Trischka’s EarlJam: A Tribute to Earl Scruggs (featuring Tony, Michael Davis, Casey Driessen and Jared Engel). Tony Trischka is known as the father of modern bluegrass” – New York Times. Tony was born in Syracuse, in 1949, and raised in a home filled with music. There were Broadway scores and a sweeping range of classical music, from Stravinsky to Beethoven. The first thing Trischka learned to play on the banjo, in fact, was the Ninth Symphony. The wide-open American vistas of Aaron Copland had an especially potent spiritual and visceral impact on him, as did the folk music his left-leaning father held dear. The Almanac Singers, the solo work of its founding members Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, and Lead Belly’s children’s LP were in constant rotation.
