OSWEGO COUNTY – The second show of the fall #JazzByTheLake season showcases The Jimmy Johns Trio with special guest vocalist Julie Falatico Montalbono on Friday, November 13 at 7:30pm; doors open at 7pm.
The trio is led by vibraphonist extraordinaire Jimmy Johns. Jimmy was an adjunct professor of jazz drum set and vibraphone at Colgate University and Hamilton College. He enjoyed a long relationship with Syracuse Stage and has played with the Mario DeSantis Orchestra for thirty years. He has appeared with Cedar Walton, Slam Stewart, Nick Brignola, John Pizzarelli, and the New York Voices, just to name a few. Jimmy’s trio has performed every Wednesday night at Pastabilities in Syracuse for twenty-three years.
Rick Montalbono began a long career as keyboardist, composer, arranger and Jazz Educator in the 1960s and has played with a virtual who’s who of the jazz and entertainment world, such as Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Mangione and Jaco Pastorious. He’s currently teaching at Hamilton College and Colgate University. Additionally, Rick spent 20 years as Jazz Educator at Syracuse University.
Saxophonist Joe Carello is a Syracuse native and has performed in concert on many occasions having been a featured soloist with the Syracuse Symphony, The Rochester Philharmonic and the Syracuse Orchestra. He has performed with Aretha Franklin, Diane Schurr, Maureen Mcgovern, and Jeff Tyzik to name a few. As lead alto saxophonist with the Central New York Jazz Orchestra he has performed with Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, Grady Tate and others. As a sideman Joe has worked with Chuck and Gap Mangione, Harry Connick Jr., Natalie Cole, The New York Voices, Randy Brecker, The Manhattan Transfer, Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra Jr. and The Temptations. He has recorded with Danny D’Imperio, Peter Mack, Eric Alexander, Barry Harris, Nancy Kelly, Ralph Lalama, and more. In addition to his performing career, Joe is an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College, Lemoyne College and Hamilton College.
Julie Falatico Montalbono is a Sammy Award nominee for her trio album “Taking A Chance On Love”. She began her musical pursuits in Los Angeles and Cleveland, singing with some of the country’s best musicians before returning to her roots in Upstate New York in the early 2000s. Julie’s warm, sultry voice blends beautifully with Rick’s masterful keyboard skills.
The Jimmy Johns Trio with special guest vocalist Julie Falatico Montalbono show, curated by David Kaspar, is made possible through the Music Hall’s Guest Curator program, whereby new programs are introduced outside the regular concert series representing demographics and artistic genre not typical in Music Hall programming.
