Mark Farner

OSWEGO – Mark Farner’s American Band, led by the writer and singer of Grand Funk Railroad’s iconic hits, will headline a full weekend of great music at the 2024 edition of Harborfest in Oswego. Farner and his band perform Friday, July 26 at 9:15 p.m. on the Constellation Energy Lakeview Stage. The show, like all of Harborfest, is free of charge. The festival runs from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28.

Farner is an original member of Grand Funk Railroad, formed in Flint, Michigan in 1969. He wrote and sang nearly all of the band’s biggest hits, which include “We’re An American Band,” “I’m Your Captain (Closer To Home),” Some Kind of Wonderful,” and “Bad Time.”

“I think our fans connected to our songs because we were sincere,” Farner has said. “My lyrics were about Mother Earth, stopping the war, and all about love. They still have a point of reference with me in their heart.”

“We’re excited to have such an iconic performer with us this year. Mark Farner’s American Band will rank right up there among the best shows in its 35 editions and I encourage everyone to grab a lawn chair and come spend an evening by the shore enjoying some great food and drink and some classic American rock n’ roll,” said Dan Harrington, Harborfest Executive Director.

Novelis sponsors Breitbeck Park, which is the heart of the Harborfest celebration. It features the stage with daily entertainment, food and drink vendors, childrens’ activities and more. It is also the prime viewing area for the annual fireworks spectacular, sponsored by Pathfinder Bank.

Harborfest returns July 25 – 28, 2024 with the food, music, fun and fireworks that has drawn families and friends together along the Lake Ontario shore to make unforgettable memories. The free-to-attend festival’s signature event is its spectacular fireworks show over the lake while its stages feature top national and regional performers. The annual Harborfest Children’s Parade, Friday, July 26 is one of many family-friendly events for young people to enjoy with their parents. Great food, exciting rides and games and interesting artwork, crafts and products round out a festival that has been a destination since 1988.
