Oil Painting Class at the Art Association of Oswego

The Art Association of Oswego (AAO) is offering a 4 week Introduction to Oil Painting class taught by Kimberly Rossiter. The focus of this class is to familiarize the students to painting with oils. Many people have the misconception that oil painting is too hard, too toxic, too messy to clean up, etc. This class will explore and dispel these myths to give students the confidence and knowledge to safely use this medium to its full potential. Attention will also focus on using a limited palette of three primary colors plus white to teach color mixing and color value relationships. Students will learn about the importance of blocking in, values, and edges, through a step-by-step process to achieve a completed oil painting. Students should finish an 8” x 10” painting completed by the end of the workshop. Some drawing skills are needed. The class will be held on Tuesdays, June 17th and 24th, Monday June 30th and Tuesday July 8th from 5 pm to 8 pm. To learn more about this class, to register, and to pay the class fee, please visit the Art Association of Oswego website oswegoarts.org. Materials and supplies will be provided.

Kimberly Rossiter has several of her oil paintings on display along with other plein air artists in a show called Brushes with Nature in the large gallery at the AAO. Gallery hours are Saturdays 10-1 pm, Sundays 1-4 pm, and Wednesdays 10-2 pm. The AAO is located at 30 Barbara Donahue Drive, in the red brick building across the street from Fort Ontario.
