The Oswego Film Group (OFG) will host a free screening of the documentary Food, Inc. in SUNY Oswego’s Campus Center Room C114, on Monday, March 29. The 7 PM screening, open to the public, will be followed by a discussion of the film.

Food, Inc. shines a light on the state of the US food industry. Driven by large corporations, the industry’s provided us with an impressive year-round selection at our supermarkets—but not without putting (as the film’s website notes) “the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment” as well as our health at risk.

Those interviewed in the film include Eric Schlosser (author of Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (author of In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and the current best-seller Food Rules), and Gary Hirschberg (head of Stonyfield Farms).

The film, directed and co-written by Robert Kenner, won this year’s Critics Choice Award for Best Documentary Feature from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. The film runs 94 minutes and is rated PG (for some thematic material and disturbing images). More information can be found on the film’s website: http://www.foodincmovie.com/

The Oswego Film Group (formed in 2005) is dedicated to bringing quality independent film to Oswego and fostering a community of interested film goers.
