FULTON — Oswego Opera Theater will present “Arias & Encores,” a fundraiser exploring connections between Broadway musicals and opera, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at The Art Scene @ CNY Arts Center, 121 Cayuga St., Fulton, according to a release from the organization.
Under the musical direction of Dan Williams, local vocalists will move between Broadway and opera selections to show how the traditions inform one another. Featured vocalists include Julia Ebner, Sarah Hasegawa, Erica Hoenig, Sunny Robertson-O’Boyle, Jane Schuessler and Joe Schuessler. Oswego Opera Theater President Gina Mazzoli and Treasurer Adam Fine also will be featured vocalists.
The release points to connections between Rent and La Bohème, Elton John’s adaptation of Aida, and themes shared by Little Shop of Horrors and Faust. It also notes that Les Misérables and Candide explore questions long addressed in opera.
“People think of opera and musical theatre as two separate worlds, but they’re really one long conversation,” Williams said. “When you hear a Puccini aria and then a song from Rent back to back, the family resemblance is unmistakable. That’s the fun of this program.”
“We wanted to build a night that welcomes everyone, whether you grew up on cast albums or have never set foot in an opera house,” Mazzoli said. “If you love a good story told through great singing, you’re going to feel right at home.”
Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students, with proceeds supporting Oswego Opera Theater. Tickets are available at the door and through the online ticket page for Arias & Encores.
“This concert is a chance to enjoy a wonderful evening and support live opera in our region,” Fine said. “Every ticket really does make a difference for us.”
Concessions will be available from The Art Scene @ CNY Arts Center. A lotto board will be raffled off at the event to benefit Oswego Opera Theater.
