OSWEGO – The Oswego Opera Theater presents two comedic operettas for the price of one! Performances of “Trial by Jury” and “Cox and Box” begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Nov. 3. True to the storyline of the productions, the shows will be held at the Oswego County Courthouse, 25 E. Oneida St., Oswego.
“Trial by Jury” is a hilarious one-act operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan which centers around a lawsuit over a broken engagement. Edwin, the defendant, has fallen in love with another woman and has jilted his fiancée, Angelina, who sues him for “breach of promise of marriage.”
“Cox and Box” is another entertaining one-act operetta. Created by Burnard and Sullivan, it tells the story of a chance meeting between two men who discover they were fated to marry the same undesirable woman. When Mr. Box attempts to avoid his fate by faking his own suicide, Mr. Cox threatens to expose the ruse.
The productions are brought to audiences by Bronx Opera Director Ben Spierman and directors Amanda Li and Ben May from SUNY Oswego’s music department.
Tickets are $35 for general admission, $25 for seniors aged 62 and older, and $10 for students. A limited number of premium seats with cushioned upholstery are available for $50.
