Shirley Baldwin Joins Riverside Artisans

Shirley Baldwin

OSWEGO – Fair Haven native and SUNY Oswego graduate Shirley Baldwin has returned to the area and joined the Riverside Artisans as a resin artist.  Her work features dramatic depictions of the water on Lake Ontario’s shoreline.  Her charcuterie boards and coasters will delight all lake lovers.  Multiple layers of resins develop fascinating patterns and lusters.  Her geode-inspired wall art combines resins with amethyst and quartz crystals.

She says, “The fluidity of resin lends itself to the movement of the water that surrounds us in Oswego.  Each piece I create is a reflection of my fascination with nature, movement, and light.  Resin allows me to layer color, texture, and embedded materials in ways that create visual experiences, often evoking the serenity and chaos of water.”

According to Shirley, “You might say I’ve returned to my roots of Lake Ontario, living and creating here in Oswego. My first career was as a psychiatric nurse at the mental health center on Bunner Street, and that led to a career spanning 30+ years in pharmaceutical sales and sales management.”

Shirley dabbled as a crafter over the years; stained glass work in her late 20’s and early 30’s, but there was never enough time in that career to pursue anything close to art.  After retiring, she first focused on beading, creating necklaces and bracelets, then she started to experiment with epoxy resin.  She has been working with that medium for almost seven years, creating functional art as well as wall art.
