Fulton, NY – Friends of Recovery Oswego County presents an evening of hope and healing as they host renown singer / songwriter John Dillon for a live performance May 30th at 7:00 p.m. in its Recovery Community Outreach Center, 808 West Broadway in Fulton.
Dillon is a radio producer, guitar maker and author in long-term recovery from substance abuse disorder. He will be performing songs from his albums Hope Road and The Lighthouse Project, which trace his journey from ’60s psychedelia to full-blown substance use disorder in the ’80s, and finally to a life of sobriety and spiritual growth in the ’90s and beyond.
“Creative writing and in my case more specifically, songwriting, is and has been integral to my recovery from substance use disorder,” said Dillon. “In early recovery, I used songwriting to process my grief around personal relationships, places, and things lost during active addiction. Although I didn’t know it at the time, the creative process of writing and performing deepened my connection to a Higher Power.”
Now in long-term recovery, Dillon uses songwriting and music performance to help others.
“Being of service strengthens my own recovery, and by collaborating on lyrics with people in treatment, I can help them deal with past issues and express their needs and desires in recovery,” added Dillon. “Performing these collaborative songs allows me to connect with audience members on a personal and emotional level. This connection with a person in long-term recovery lets participants know that recovery is not only possible, but worth striving for.”
Dillon’s performance is the first of what will be many events and activities to be held at the Friends of Recovery Oswego County’s new Recovery Community Outreach Center in Fulton. Formerly housed at the McCrobie Building in Oswego, the Recovery Community Outreach Center now has its own 3,000 square feet facility in Fulton.
“We’re excited to bring such a talented performer to our community,” said Virginia Bough. “John brings experience, strength and hope to treatment and recovery centers far and wide. His hope filled music is as inspirational as it is entertaining. We invite community members of all ages to join us for free concert.”
