OSWEGO — Degree candidates will showcase their work at SUNY Oswego’s Fall Master of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibitions, including the digital art of a Chinese student who wants to work in food packaging.
Three art department candidates for M.A. and 13 for BFA degrees will display their work Dec. 3 to 15 in the south and north art galleries, respectively, of Tyler Hall. The opening reception will take place 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.
Tian Chen of Nanjing, near Shanghai in southeast China, will showcase the digital graphic design that goes into packaging food and other products. For example, the master’s degree candidate will show his take on a wrapper for a Lindt chocolate bar.
“I want to look for a job in food packaging,” said Chen, who will join the other exhibitors as December graduates. “But if I couldn’t find one, I could do web design or poster design or anything.”
Chen searched for graduate programs online, and chose SUNY Oswego’s. “Only a few colleges offered a master’s degree in graphic design, so I came here,” he said.
A graduate of Southeast University in China, Chen joins two mid-career M.A. candidates who will exhibit in that discipline, Darren Sanefski and Stacy Huntington, both of Baldwinsville.
The BFA candidates also will exhibit as part of their degree requirements. They come from all over the state, and specialize in graphic design, ceramics, photography and drawing and painting. They include Kimberly Allen, Minna Bordett, Cristina Cardenas, Alesha Hall, Rachel Harnish, Derek Hipsman, Jessica Kane, Dianka LeRoux, Patrick McNeil, Barb Morey, Ben Petrie, Nicole Sheldon and David Widrick.
Gallery hours are 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. People with disabilities who need assistance to attend this event should call 312-2113 in advance.
