The Oswego Children’ Theater’s “The Road to Oz” to be featured at the 40th Annual Munchkin Convention

The Oswego Children’s Theater’s up-coming production “The Road to Oz ” has been chosen to be performed at the Fortieth Annual Munchkin Convention, in Syracuse, on August 1. When “The Road to Oz” premiered in May 2008 one of the performances was attended by Kathy DeScenna, the President of the Land of Oz Presevation Company, and the lead organizer of the fortieth annual Munchkin Convention. She recognized that the show would be a wonderful addition to the convention as this year 2009 is one hundredth anniversary of the original publication of L. Frank Baum’s “The Road to Oz” in 1909.

“The Road to Oz” fifth of fourteen books written about Oz by author,L.Frank Baum, and was adapted for the stage by local author Wayne Mosher Jr., who also wrote music and lyrics for the play. In addition to having the show presented at the convention Mosher has been invited to add his adaptation of “The Road to Oz” to the archive of works based on Oz and has been asked to speak at the convention about writing a new work based on Baum’s stories.

The production features a mixed cast of area youth and adults with colorful costumes, sets in production designed to please audiences of all ages. The show is directed by Lyndsie Lee Jones with the assistance of stage manager Kevin Murtha. Costume design is by Kelly Mosher and Bob Larkin is the technical director.

The special performance, of “The Road to Oz” at the Fortieth Annual Munchkin Convention will be presented at ballroom of the Hotel Syracuse on Saturday August 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets for this performance, which is open to the public, are $10. The show will also be performed in Oswego, at the Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall on July 24 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. with matinee performances July 26, and August 2, at 2 p.m. Tickets for the Oswego performances are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.
