Three Exhibitions at the Art Association of Oswego

OSWEGO – The Art Association of Oswego will present three new art exhibitions beginning in October. The opening reception for all three art shows will be held on Saturday, October 10 from 3 to 5 pm. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. In the Timothy McHenry gallery on the second floor of the Art Center, will be an exhibition of sculpture and installations by Rochester artist and educator Nickolas Viele. Viele has a Master of the Fine Arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. He currently teaches at Monroe Community College. His exhibition, entitled Cured Castings, includes crossdisciplinary artworks that capture various aspects of the human condition, often highly challenging and personal.

On the first floor of the Art Center, in the Kirk Beason Gallery, will be an exhibition of recent work by Katharine St. Laurent, titled Naturally Curious. Ms. St. Laurent was the winner of this year’s Emerging Artist program. She received a comprehensive support package, including a stipend, dedicated exhibition space, expanded mentorship and networking opportunities. Her exhibition, supported in part by a grant from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, will be a presentation of top-notch wildlife photography. She considers it “a privilege” to photograph the living things she is drawn to. In the Alcove, part of the Art Center lobby, will be a small exhibition of realistic and abstract drawings by Karen Ringwald, long-time member and current co-president of the Art Association. This exhibition, called Pages from a Sketchbook, shows both sides of the artist’s talent and interest.

The Art Association is located at 30 Barbara Donahue Drive directly across from historic Fort Ontario. Regular gallery hours are from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays, from 1 to 4 pm on Sundays, from 10 am to 1 pm on Wednesdays and from 5 to 8 pm on Thursdays. All three shows will run until Sunday, November 8.For more information please visit the AAO website: oswegoarts.org.
