What’s The Local Buzz All About

FULTON – The Art Scene @CNY Arts Center is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host its “Local Atists” art exhibition, opening its doors to the public on Thursday, June 5th. This event, a cornerstone of the local arts scene, promises a vibrant display of talent from artists residing right here in Fulton and the surrounding Oswego County area.

“Local Artists” aims to provide a vital platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their latest works, fostering a stronger connection between creators and the community. This year’s exhibition features a diverse range of mediums, including painting, drawing, photography and mixed media, ensuring there’s something to captivate every artistic sensibility.  The FAA (Fulton Art Association) is the longest standing art organization in the city of Fulton, which has come to land under the Art Scene, where they will always have a place to exhibit art, and hold art contests.

“We are incredibly proud to present ‘Local Artists’ once again,” says Bonnie McClellan, Executive Director of the Art Scene. “It has been several years since the FAA has been able to host this event.  This exhibition is a true celebration of the immense artistic talent we have in our region. It’s an opportunity for our neighbors to discover local talent, appreciate different perspectives, and perhaps even find a piece of art that truly speaks to them, and purchase if it’s for sale.”

Among the artists featured this year, who were all winners in previous FAA art shows, are well-known local photographer Phil Clift whose work communicates without the written word by bringing out an emotional response.  Sandy Clift who was most well known for her use in utilizing various mediums, Sandy passed away in 2023.  Also exhibiting is photographer Colleen O’Brien, whose striking nature photos are sure to spark conversation. Seasoned artists in the exhibition include painter Bonnie Travato – Sommers, whose intricate paintings capture birds and wildlife, as well as pet portraits have already garnered significant buzz, and Free lance writer and photographer & painter Joe Abbate known for his thought-provoking work. Painter, Bonnie McClellan, whose series of landscapes, mixed media, drawings and other paintings, is also well known for her work around the city, by contributing many artistically painted trash cans, working with other local artists on Murals in the city, and her own painted mural on the back of the Art Scene, if you haven’t seen it, it tells a story of the Art Scene @CNY Arts Center.

The opening reception on Thursday June 5, from 5:30PM to 7:30 PM, will offer a unique opportunity for attendees to meet the artists, learn about their inspirations, and enjoy light refreshments. Many of the pieces on display will also be available for purchase, providing a direct way for the community to support local artists and take home a unique piece of Fulton’s artistic heritage.

“Supporting local artists is crucial for the cultural enrichment of our community,” adds McClellan. “When you purchase a piece of art from a local creator, you’re not just acquiring something beautiful; you’re investing in the vibrancy of our town and encouraging artistic growth.”

“Local Artists” will run from June 5th to June 8th.  Most art work will continue to stay on display through the month of June.  The Fulton Community Arts Center, located at 121 Cayuga Street, in addition to the meet and greet, will be open June 7 9AM-12PM and Sunday June 8 10AM-2PM. Admission is free, and all are encouraged to attend and experience the rich tapestry of local artistic expression. Don’t miss this chance to see the “Local Artists” that make Fulton a truly creative place to live.
