Fitzhugh Park Sixth Grade Celebration


OSWEGO, NY – The sixth graders of the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School celebrated their final days at the east side school with the annual recognition ceremony.

The highlight of the afternoon came as each student received their certificate in recognition of their accomplishments from Principal Donna Simmons.

Fitzhugh Park Elementary School Principal Donna Simmons presented the Triple “C” and New York State Comptroller awards to sixth grade students. Katie Smith (left) earned one of the two Triple “C” honors while Christopher Colasurdo earned the Comptroller Award and Monique Jones the second   Triple “C” certificate.

However, there were several special awards that were also presented.

Christopher Colasurdo received the New York State Comptroller Award  while the “Triple C Awards” signifying character, courage and commitment were presented to  Monique Jones and Katie Smith.

Once again the Rose Izzo Writing Award was presented to a Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader.

The award, introduced several years ago by the Izzo family is presented to one outstanding writer among the FPS sixth graders.

This year, John Liberty  was the recipient as Yolanda Izzo-Breitbeck  and the great-grand-daughter of Mrs. Izzo, Samantha Falcetti, presented the award and was joined by Yolanda and her husband Lance Breitbeck along with niece Holley Allen.

Several other sixth grade students were recognized for their qualifying for the Presidential Academic Awards.  Earning the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence were Samual Broadwell, Reese Davis, Nick Searor, Tyler Johnson, Katie Smith, Chris Colasurdo, Rose Huang, Monique Jones, Joseph Kelly, Tyler Steinbach and Leah Taylor.

The Rose Izzo Writing Award was once again presented to a Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader.  John Liberty was this year’s recipient  as they were joined by Lance Breitbeck, Rose Izzo’s daughter Yolando Izzo-Breitbeck, neice Holly Allen, and  grand daughter FPS sixth grader Samantha Falcetti, Liberty, former Fitzhugh students and members of the OHS “Class of 2012” Nathan McKeen, Emily Kolenda and Principal Donna Simmons.

Recipients of the  Presidential Award for Academic Achievement were Nicklas Holland, Sheyenne Lacey,  Courtney Dryden, Matthew Gill, Katheryne Hibbert-Nelson, Alexis Cornelius, Emilee Ekman, Kaitlyn Gunther, Alison Hibbert, Katterina Ruotolo and Skylar Trapasso.

Joining Principal Simmons in congratulating this year’s sixth graders were their teachers Carol Carroll, Ed Fayette and Chris Haessig.

Fitzhugh Park sixth graders who are now bound for Oswego Middle School include:

Paige Connolly, Elijah Dillard, Courtney Dryden, Tessa Ellis, Samantha Fetterley, Matthew Gill, Frederick Gonzalez, Jacob Haynes, Katheryn Hibbert-Nelson, Tyler Johnson, Michael McConnell, Alanna Mulvihill, Sean Pepe, Quionna Pepper, Katie Smith, Giordana Szadkowski and Emily Waterman.

Also moving on Scott Alton, Christopher Colasurdo, John Dygert, Samantha Falcetti, Tyrese Hillman, Nicklas Holland, Rose Huang, Rebekka Johnson, Monique Jones, Joseph Kelly, Sheyenne Lacey, Joshua Losurdo, Jeremy McConnell, Isaac Meaker, Dakota Ouderkirk, Alexes Pitcher, Tyler Steinbach, Leah Taylor, Brianne Wallace and Trent Wilkinson.

The other members of the sixth grade prepared for entering Oswego Middle School are Samual Broadwell, Alexis Cornelius, Reese Davis, Emilee Ekman, Kaitlyn Gunther, Alison Hibbert, Mariah Hilborn, Andrew Ives, Cash Kennedy, John Lee, John Liberty, Ciane Mulcahey, Dionna Pepper, James Pittman, Katterina Ruotolo, Jarod Sawyer, Nicholas Searor, Skylar Trapasso and Adam Weller.

    Congradulation to all of the Fitzhugh Park School students that are all going in to Middle School in Sept. I wish you the best of luck because i do know it’s going to be a big change for all of you but it all turns out to be great for you all. Have a great summer to all of you and be safe.
