Florida Man Dies In Oswego County Motor Vehicle Crash

OSWEGO, NY – A Florida man died in a motor vehicle accident on May 3, according to sheriff’s deputies.

At about 1:04 p.m., Betsy A. Maslen, 65, of 4763 Norstar Blvd., 117, Liverpool, was operating a 2005 Nissan westbound on State Route 49 in the town of Hastings when she reportedly made a left turn onto the I-81 southbound on-ramp, crossing the path of an eastbound 2005 Yamaha motorcycle.

The motorcycle was operated by Robert E. Gale, 65, of 2950 NE 52nd St., D32, Silver Springs, Florida.

Mr. Gale reportedly attempted to lay the motorcycle down on its left side to avoid the collision, then skidded across the pavement, striking the Nissan with its undercarriage, deputies said.

He was ejected from the motorcycle, subsequently transported by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation led to a ticket being issued to Ms. Maslen for Failed to Yield Right of Way Left Turn.
