FULTON, NY – Despite cooler than normal temperatures for May, people lined the streets in Fulton on Saturday to take in the Memorial Day Parade.
Wrapped in blankets and sweatshirts families set up their folding chairs and waited for the lights and sirens from Fulton Police Department signifying the start of the show.
Gertrude Lindsley has been attending the parade for about 10 years.
She keeps coming back “because it’s so nice.”
Evan, Jayden, Austin, Treyvin and Emily spent most of the parade on their feet.
They got up and danced along with each of the marching bands that went by as well at Off Broadway Dance Studio and N&N Studio of Dance.
Since they’ve been little we’ve been coming, their mothers told Oswego County Today. It’s just a good time and we love to dance! They said.
“My favorite was the racecars and the monsters!” said Evan. The monsters he’s referring to being from Demon Acres Haunted Hayride in Hannibal.
Michele Trepasso has been hosting a Memorial Day parade get-together at for the past 12 years.
She said there’s usually up to 100 people congregated in her front yard to watch the parade.
They have a spread of donuts and coffee, and hang out all morning.
“The fire trucks, the bands, and seeing the looks on the kids’ faces when they all go by,” Trepasso said, listing her favorite parts of the morning.
The parade featured more than 100 different marching groups ranging from bands, to local businesses, and politicians to police officers.
Members of the Veteran’s Council and representatives from the military were reminders of the meaning behind the holiday.
From small children to adults, everyone was in high spirits, waving flags and slapping high-fives with firefighters.
