FULTON – As we continue to look forward to sunny days, and outdoor activities, we would like you to consider participating in the Fulton Family YMCAs’ 3rd Annual Century Marathon, Half Marathon (13.1 mile and 26.2 mile) Run/Walk event on Sunday October 10, 2010!

The Century Marathon and Half Marathon started as a tribute to Ruth Ripley, an Oswego County resident, avid runner and cancer survivor! Ms. Ripley had successfully completed a marathon in each of the 50 states when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. With the will to overcome her diagnosis, Ms. Ripley extended her goal. She would complete 100 marathons!

In the spring of 2008 The Fulton Family YMCA recognized the spirit and motivation of Ruth Ripley and hosted The First Annual Century Marathon and Half Marathon event. That year, Ms. Ripley completed her goal as she finished her 100th marathon right here in Oswego County. It is with honor that The Fulton Family YMCA hosts Ms. Ripley as she continues to support and participate in the Century Marathon event each year!

New this year, race organizers have decided to add a 4 person team relay. Organizers felt they needed to reach out to those who may feel like they couldn’t run the longer distance, by adding the 4 person relay they felt would be a perfect fit for those runners. The team relay course is the same 26.2 mile course as the marathon. Participants must have a minimum of three or a maximum of four runners per team. The distances covered by each relay runner are approximately six to seven miles. If a team consists of three members, one member will be required to run two relay leg distances (they can be consecutive legs but they don’t have to be).

Every participant registered will receive a finisher medal and those who register on time will get and Under Armour shirt. So don’t hold out and take the chance of not getting one. Timing will be done by Auyer timing.

Participants may find the entry form by logging onto fultonymca.com, going to a local YMCA or go to EzRacereg.com to register. We will also take registrations over the phone by calling the Fulton YMCA at 598-9622.

The organizers are looking forward to this year’s event and are still searching for sponsors. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities please contact the event organizers. For more information regarding the 2010 marathon event please call the Fulton YMCA at 598-9622.
