FULTON – The Fulton Art Association will hold its 45th annual art show and competition May 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and May 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Fulton Municipal Building, 141 S First St.
The association was started by a group of dedicated artists with a vision for the future.
They believed that art was important for the community of Fulton.
They believed in the artistic richness found in local artists of this city.
In 1973, the Fulton Art Association registered through the Fulton Common Council and held community art and craft shows.
The second annual art show and competition was held in 1974, presented by the city of Fulton Art Program and Chamber of Commerce.
Three artists in that group later received Lifetime Memberships in the association.
Seventeen artists from Fulton, Oswego, Mexico and Minetto will participate in this show.
Ninety-two entries are planned this year in nine categories – Acrylics, Photography, Drawing A, Drawing B/C, Painting Mixed Media, Oils, Three-D, Watercolors, and the Special Category theme: Domestic Felines, according to president Kathy Mihalek.
The show is free to attend, and every person who attends the show, including children, gets to vote for their favorite entry in the competition.
The entry with the highest number of votes wins the Viewers’ Choice Award, comparable to the judge’s Best of Show.
There will be original artwork and painted rocks being raffled as well as a sale table. Some of the displayed artwork in the competition will also be available for purchase.
Special appreciation is extended to the local businesses that support our association making our 2018 shows possible: Bosco & Geers, Eastern Shore Insurance, Foster Funeral Home, Fulton Savings Bank, Medicine Place, Mimi’s, Spencer and Ann Ludington.
