OSWEGO, NY – On April 12, Delta Kappa Kappa Inc., in partnership with SUNY Oswego’s Men’s Ice Hockey team, will host a special event to benefit the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County.
‘For the Kids’ will begin at 3 p.m. at the Shed, 1 Washington Blvd.
The event will feature a barbeque with a variety of foods, a silent auction, and live music with the Zeta band, as well as games, activities, and a special appearance by members of the Syracuse Crunch Hockey team.
The For the Kids fundraiser is the brainchild of SUNY Oswego students Denvol Haye, president of DKK, and Eli Kim Swallow, a forward on the SUNY Oswego Men’s Ice Hockey team.
“We’ve wanted to do something for the community,” said Haye. “We have such a great time at Oswego. With Eli being a member of a prominent sports team and myself a member of prominent fraternal organization, we feel very fortunate. Because of that we want to reach out and do something for this community.”
As a member of the hockey team, Kim Swallow is no stranger to helping the community.
“We have been involved in food drives and children’s clothing drives through our partnership with United Way. It’s through that partnership that we became aware of the CAC. We have a lot of respect for what the CAC does. With April being National Child Abuse Awareness Month we thought it would be a perfect time for us to help them raise awareness of child abuse in in our community and the many services that the CAC provides for children and their families who have suffered child abuse,” said Kim Swallow.
In addition to the food, music and games, the For the Kids fundraiser will also feature a silent auction with a variety of merchandise donated from many popular local businesses. All proceeds from the event will benefit the CAC, a non-profit charitable organization based in Fulton that provides a safe, child-friendly site for the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse.
Delta Kappa Kappa is a social fraternity whose general purpose is to foster the development of fellowship, scholarship, and leadership in young men, according to Haye.
“In recent years, DKK has raised money for a number of organizations advocating for children. Please join us at our For the kids fundraiser and show your support our efforts to raise funds to help children in need and educate our community about these desperately needed services,” said Haye.
