Students in Liz Amyot-Sturgeon’s fifth grade class at Granby Elementary School worked very hard on a special writing project recently.
The students selected a picture of an animal or animals and then wrote a descriptive paragraph using the 6+1 writing traits model: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation.
They revised and edited their paragraphs and then read them for others.
In their description, they did not state the name of the animal they were describing, and their fellow students in the class had to guess what picture the student had described.
Along with learning to be descriptive writers, the students also had to practice good listening skills as they tried to determine which animal was being described.
