Harborfest Moves Family Park to East Park

Oswego, NY – Harborfest officials have announced that the Novelis Family Park will be at East Park in Oswego as part of Harborfest 2011. The Family Park presented again by Novelis will be dedicated to programming and entertainment for children and their families. The venue will be filled with a variety of quality, family orientated activities and entertainment that children will be sure to enjoy.

“We are thrilled to have Novelis back as a major sponsor of Harborfest and the Family Park,” said Harborfest Executive Director Tom Van Schaack. “Novelis is a huge contributor to our community and to community events such as Harborfest. Their sponsorship allows the children’s committee to put together a superb couple of days of programming and entertainment for kids of all ages and their families.”

The Novelis Family Park at East Park will be open Saturday, July 30 from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM and Sunday, July from 10 AM to 3:30 PM. East Park will then be transformed into the Jazz & Blues venue featuring great jazz and blues music from late afternoon into the evening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 29-31.

“Novelis is proud to be a community partner and major corporate sponsor of Oswego Harborfest again this year”, stated Luc Boivin, Novelis’ Oswego Works Plant Manager. “The Novelis Family Park is a particularly fitting venue for representing our Oswego Works family values, and the return of aluminum beverage cans and recycling this year is a strategic fit for our company.”

The Harborfest Children’s Committee is busy securing programming for the Novelis Family Park. The centerpiece of the schedule will be the Harborfest Children’s Musical, “Pirates of Penzance,” which will be performed twice daily July 30 and 31.

The 2011 Harborfest Children’s Parade will be Friday, July 29 and be routed from West Park in Oswego to Breitbeck Park. The Harborfest Children’s Gala will be in Breitbeck Park on Tuesday, July 26.

In addition to the family entertainment and programming, and the jazz and blues music, East Park will also host the Harborfest Senior’s Concert on Friday, July 29 beginning at 12 PM, featuring Fritz’s Polka Band and Jazz Kats Big Band.

Harborfest 2011 is scheduled for July 28-31 and will feature plenty of food, fun and entertainment as venues on both Oswego’s east and west sides will be used to deliver the excitement. A wide variety of entertainment will be featured on stages throughout the city of Oswego including, the Novelis Family Park at East Park, East Park’s Jazz & Blues Stage, the Veteran’s Stage at Riverwalk West, and the NRG Lakeview Stage in Breitbeck Park. 1. WHERE will the blues/jazz stage(s) be then? The year nothing was there was a sadness to those of us on the eastside, but if there is NO jazz/blues stage that would be a serious loss. Last year’s Chocolate Thunder was one of the best shows AT Harborfest 2011.

Please promote this stage. For those of us who like the more mellow and mature atmosphere of East Park for this venue, we hope you haven’t forgotten us.
