Holy Week Services Set At Minetto UMC

MINETTO, NY – Pastor Chuck Forbes and music director Mary Lou Carpenter-Bjorkman recently announced plans for Holy Week services at the Minetto United Methodist Church.

The Palm Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. on April 1, will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The pastor’s message will be, “Hope in the Midst of Pain.” There will be a children’s message followed by a Sunday school class for the children.

The service will be followed by a friendship brunch. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share and their own table service. Beverages will be provided.

There will be a Good Friday worship service at 7 p.m. on April 6. The pastor’s message will be, “Can You See Yourself in the Cross?” Pastor Forbes noted that throughout Lent, “we have traveled with Jesus on his journey to Jerusalem seeking hope amid some of life’s most difficult challenges. Now we are at the pinnacle of our journey – the intersection of suffering and hope. When we face the cross, we may find ourselves reflected in it. What have we done to add to the suffering of the world? What have we done to add to our own personal suffering? While this service is somber, a sense of hope must not be lost. Christ’s act created a bridge for humanity to cross into eternal hope!”

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ will be celebrated on Easter Sunday at 10 a.m. on April 8.

The service will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The Chancel Choir will perform, Celebrate Life, a pulpit musical drama by Ragan Courtney and Buryl Red, with guest singers and instrumentalists.

According to music director Bjorkman, “Celebrate Life tells the story of Jesus in simple, dramatic terms. Narrated by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the tone is warm and worshipful; set with contemporary music.”

During the singing of one of the final songs, the congregation will be invited to adorn our traditional living cross with fresh flowers brought from home or available at the church and it will later be displayed on the church lawn for the enjoyment of those passing by.

The church is located at the corner of State Route 48 and County Route 8 in the village of Minetto.

The building is fully handicapped accessible and nursery care is available for infants.
