OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams both took fourth in the 22nd annual 2012 Oswego State Cross Country Invitational held on Saturday.
The University of Rochester took first in the 12-team men’s event and Ithaca earned top honors on the nine-team women’s 5K race.
In the men’s 8K event, junior Damian Archie (Binghamton, N.Y.) and senior captain Ben Sweet (Pine Bush, N.Y.) paced the Lakers with 15th- and 17th- place finishes, respectively. Archie crossed the line in 27:11, with Sweet six seconds behind.
Also scoring for Oswego State was Sean Lyons (Fr., Kingston, N.Y.), Kyle Gilyard (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) and Brian Coyle (Jr., Bayport, N.Y.), who all finished with a pace of under six minutes per mile.
Freshman Katie Laris (Clay, N.Y.) and sophomore Meghan Murphy (Dix Hills, N.Y.) were the top harriers for the Lakers, as they finished in 14th and 15th, respectively. Laris completed the race with a time of 19:56, which was four seconds in front of Murphy.
The final three scorers for the women’s team finished 35th-37th. Junior captain Christina Sakowski (Cicero, N.Y.) and freshmen Marta Tomaszewski (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and Noelle Crocetti (Webster, N.Y.) crossed the line within five seconds of each other.
The Lakers have a two-week break from meets before they travel to participate in the Houghton Highlander Invitational on Sept. 22 at 11 a.m.
