Laker Men’s Basketball Powers Past Caz

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State men’s basketball team took down Cazenovia College 75-50 at Max Ziel Gymnasium for the squad’s home opener on Friday night. With the victory, Oswego improves its record to 8-1 on the season while Cazenovia moves to 1-5.

Defense was a key component to the Lakers victory as they held the Wildcats to a shooting percentage of just 31.5% (17 for 45) throughout the contest. Oswego’s big men controlled the paint with both Mykelle Krecko and Mark Candelario collecting three blocked shots.

The two also combined for 14 rebounds, 11 of the defensive variety.

Offensively, Walter Sampson and Kyle Covley led the way, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively. Also pitching in was Brian Sortino who notched 12 points of his own.

As a team, Oswego had a nice day shooting, sinking 27 of 55 (49.1%) from the field.

The Green and Gold also got great contributions from the bench as it combined for 27 points, led by Krecko with nine.

Men’s basketball will return to action after the winter break with a 7:30 p.m. road battle against Oneonta on Jan. 5.
