Laker Volleyball Drops a Pair Saturday

CANTON, N.Y. – The Oswego State volleyball team (2-4) suffered a pair of setbacks to Saint Michael’s and St. Lawrence in the last day of the Victory Promotions Invitational on the St. Lawrence campus Saturday.

The Lakers were swept by the Purple Knights, 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-14), and nearly knocked off the Saints in a five-set thriller, 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 15-25, 26-24, 5-15).

Against Division II Saint Michael’s, Chelsea Crump (Sr., Sandy Creek, N.Y.) posted a team-high four kills, while Sabrina Sutton (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) recorded two kills and ten digs. Kelsey Ihle (Sr., Clarence Center, N.Y.) also added nine digs in the back row.

In the final match of the day, Crump again paced Oswego State in kills with 13. Fellow middle blocker Stephanie Bailey (So., Scotia, N.Y.) reached 10 kills to go along with five blocks. Sutton turned in another all-round performance as she registered nine kills and 14 digs. Kara Michelsen (So., Lake View, N.Y.) handed out 31 assists in the match

Freshman Emily Walser (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was named to the Victory Promotions All-Tournament Team as voted on by the coaches.

Oswego State plays its home opener on Tuesday against St. John Fisher at 7 p.m.
