Laker volleyball heads to playoffs ranked third

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Despite dropping a pair of straight-set losses to Buffalo State and Fredonia, the Oswego State volleyball team (11-16, 2-4 SUNYAC) will enter the SUNYAC Playoffs as the third-seed from the West Division.

The Lakers fell to the Bengals, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-15), and the host Blue Devils, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-19).

Against Buffalo State, Kayla Pawlewicz (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) and Chelsea Crump (Sr., Sandy Creek, N.Y.) led Oswego State with eight kills each.

Kara Michelsen (So., Lake View, N.Y.) ended the match with a double-double after recording 18 assists and 12 digs. Kelsey Ihle (Sr., Clarence Center, N.Y.) finished with 13 digs.

In the final match of the day, Stephanie Bailey (So., Scotia, N.Y.) and Morgan Lavner (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) tallied five kills apiece. Sabrina Sutton (Jr., Fulton, N.Y.) and Ihle compiled nine digs each, while Stephany Olsheski (Sr., Brockport, N.Y.) posted nine assists.

Oswego State hosts SUNYIT on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
