High Speed Pursuit in Oswego County

OSWEGO COUNTY – Yesterday evening, at around 6:48 PM, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office engaged in a high-speed pursuit with a 2005 Chrysler 300.   The pursuit began on US Route 11 in Mexico when a deputy with radar observed the vehicle traveling at 117 MPH.  The Chrysler 300 continued at speeds over 100 MPH and refused to stop as it traveled south on US Route 11, including traveling with tires off the roadway and driving towards oncoming traffic to pass vehicles in effort to evade Law Enforcement.  The vehicle eventually stopped at the Central Square Fire Department and the driver was identified as Matthew Losito, 31 years of age and from Hastings.  This chase from start to finish lasted approximately four minutes.  Losito was found to be in possession of an alcoholic beverage and a functional portion of a firearm.

Losito was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the first degree, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, and numerous traffic tickets.  The vehicle driven by Losito was uninspected, operating without insurance, and unregistered.

Losito is currently in Oswego County Jail.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the New York State Police and the Central Square Police Department for assisting with this incident.
