OSWEGO – More than 65 community members and Titanic buffs gathered on Feb. 2 at the beautifully restored Beacon Hotel to view the 1953 movie, “Titanic.”
The classic black and white film was directed by Jean Negulesco and starred Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Wagner.
Free popcorn and soda were provided for all movie-goers.
“The Titanic Event Committee would like to thank the owners of the Beacon Hotel, Felacia and Atom Avery, for hosting this community event,” said Mercedes Niess, executive director of the H. Lee White Marine Museum. “They have done a marvelous job restoring and renovating this early 1900s historic structure and it was the perfect setting for our step back in time.”
The event was part of a year-long commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic.
Future events include a Titanic exhibit and ballroom dance lessons in preparation for the museum’s premier fundraiser, “A Titanic Affair.”
This gala event will be held on April 14 and offers guests an evening of first-class elegance to recognize the centennial of the disaster.
