Congressman John M. McHugh (R,C,I) today announced that he has received the unanimous endorsement of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition.  The coalition comprises nearly 80 veterans groups and veterans advocacy groups representing more than 250,000 veterans and their family members nationwide.

“I am extremely gratified to have the endorsement of such an honorable organization. America’s veterans and their families have sacrificed so much in service to our nation.  We must continue to honor their commitment in both words and deeds,” said Rep. McHugh who serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee’s Military Personnel Subcommittee.  “I am honored the Coalition and its members deemed my candidacy worthy of their support.  I appreciate their recognition of my efforts on issues of importance to our veterans and active duty personnel.  I look forward to having the opportunity to continue working on their behalf.”

The Coalition’s mission is to coordinate and facilitate the diverse interests of numerous small and regional veterans’ organizations for concerted effort and common cause on behalf of veteran’s affairs.  Further, the organization seeks to enhance the public recognition of the service of both Vietnam and Gulf War veterans and advocate for the return of POWs and accountability for MIAs.

Included in the more than 80 veterans groups comprising the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition is American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., a national organization representing mothers who have lost either a son or daughter during service to their country.

First elected to the House in 1992, Congressman McHugh currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and is recognized as a leader in developing America’s policies on national defense.
