OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team – which is ranked No. 10 in the preseason USCHO poll – hosts its final exhibition game against the Carleton Place Canadians at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Oswego is just one of two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) teams to appear in the USCHO’s Top 15 poll. The other is Geneseo at No. 5, while Plattsburgh is receiving seven votes.
Carleton Place is a member of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) and have won four league championships since their inception in 2009. The Lakers have nine CCHL alumni on their current roster, including freshman Travis Broughman, who most recently played for the Canadians. Broughman was sixth overall in league scoring during the 2017-18 season, recording 65 points in just 60 games.
The men’s ice hockey game is among many events going on around campus for Family and Friends Weekend.
Prior to the contest on Saturday, Oswego will recognize Hometown Hero Nate Beasley during a ceremonial puck drop.
Beasley is a veteran who served 10 years in the Marine Corps. Since that time, Beasley has created a local chapter of Team RWB, which strives to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.
Along those lines, Beasley organized a Sept. 11 Remembrance Run to honor local heroes as well as those that were lost on that tragic day.
