“The Espirt de Corps trophy is awarded to the school that displays an exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior,” said band director Kevin Upcraft.  “Unlike the other trophies that focus on the musical achievement based on the scores of the adjudication panel, this coveted prize spotlights the performance of the students throughout the festival weekend as they demonstrate their highest level of responsible behavior. Personal integrity, quality character values, a desire for excellence and a spirit of cooperation serve as the cornerstone qualities of the Esprit de Corps Awards.  This is the third Espirt de Corps trophy that we have won in the last five years and we are very proud of it.”

On May 8, 126 students and their parent chaperones traveled to Baltimore/Washington DC area to tour the historic monuments, explore some museums and participate in a music competition at Hershey Park.

They toured the National Aquarium in Baltimore and were able to see a live dolphin show, ate lunch at the inner harbor area at Hard Rock Café, and were treated to the “Blue Man Group,” a percussion based rock-music concert which uses many special effects for an exciting performance.

In Washington D.C., students were able to see an IMAX film on space exploration, tour the Air & Space, Natural History and American History Smithsonian Museums, as well as take a walking tour of many monuments and war memorials and dinner at the Medieval Times Dinner Show featuring live jousting and horses.

Since returning home from their Washington, D.C., trip the band has been very busy continuing its successful season.

The band took first in all divisions, best in class and overall Grand Champion award at the Seneca Falls Band Pageant.

They also received a rating of Gold at the New York State School Music Association performance evaluation festival and took third at the Darien Lake Parade festival.

Memorial Day they marched in New Haven and Mexico parades.

Coming up next for the Middle School Band Tigers is the Gorham Band Pageant and then the Sherburne Pageant of Bands.

Last year, Mexico Middle School took the overall MS/JH best in class award at Sherburne and look to continue in their success this year.
