Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s basketball team fell to Neumann University in the championship round of the Max Ziel Tournament on Saturday, 69-58.
The Lakers began the first half of the game with the lead, but the two teams battled for control of the game. The Knights took the lead with 10:20 left in the first half when Neumann’s Rich Witten dunked, making the score 17-15. Neumann held onto their lead, extending it to 34-24 leading into halftime.
Oswego was 10-29 from the field, going 3-16 from the three-point line. The team was one for five in free throws.
Neumann started off the second half strong.
The Lakers fought back hard, scoring eight unanswered points to cut the Knights’ lead to eight. Neumann regained control, stretching their lead as far as 14 points when the score was 51-37 with 8:03 left in the game. Oswego continued to fight, but their comeback fell short and Neumann won 69-58.
Daniel Ross led Oswego in points with 28, blocks with one, steals with one and rebounds with 10. Brian Sortino led the team with two assists.
The Lakers will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when they take on Ithaca College at home.
