New Horizons Band Fills St. Francis Commons With The Sounds Of The Season

OSWEGO – Members of the New Horizon Band shared the sounds of the season with those gathered at St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence in Oswego for a recent concert.

The band performed some traditional holiday favorites for residents and guests, and folks were heard singing along to their favorite tunes.

With Christmas only a few weeks away, it was a great way to get in the holiday spirit! Thank you band members for a festive performance.

About the New Horizons Band: Roy Ernst, a professor at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, founded the New Horizons Band program in 1991.

The program, now known as New Horizons International Music Association, consists of more than 200 bands, orchestras, and choruses with more than 9,000 musicians in Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the United States.

The OCNHB&C is a Minetto-based member of NHIMA and an affiliate of Oswego County RSVP.

The 42-member band, which includes strings, and 45-member chorus perform independently and jointly at various area events and adult care facilities. The band director is Frank Bickel.

St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence is a part of The St. Luke Family of Caring, an affiliation of community-based, not-for-profit healthcare providers serving the greater Oswego County area.

Located on the St. Luke healthcare campus in the city of Oswego, St. Francis Commons provides supportive housing and home care services in a single-story residence accommodating 60 individuals in fully equipped private or shared-private rooms. St. Francis Commons is the only residence in Oswego County offering Memory Care, specialized care in a safe environment, serving individuals diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia-related illness including Alzheimer’s disease.
