AAA: Syracuse Gas Prices Average $4.33 in Oct. 19 Report

SYRACUSE — Gasoline prices in the Syracuse area averaged $4.33 per gallon in AAA Western and Central New York’s Oct. 19 report, down 3 cents from the previous Monday, as drivers continued to face prices substantially higher than a year earlier.

The organization reported a New York state average of $4.42 per gallon, down 3 cents from Oct. 12, compared with $3.13 a year earlier. The national average was $4.29, down 6 cents over the week and up from $3.03 a year earlier.

AAA’s regional gasoline averages and changes from Oct. 12 were:

  • Batavia: $4.37 per gallon, down 2 cents.
  • Buffalo: $4.37, down 2 cents.
  • Elmira: $4.29, down 4 cents.
  • Ithaca: $4.40, down 1 cent.
  • Rochester: $4.39, down 2 cents.
  • Rome: $4.45, down 2 cents.
  • Syracuse: $4.33, down 3 cents.
  • Watertown: $4.47, down 4 cents.

AAA said crude oil prices ranged from $99 to $107 per barrel on the morning of Oct. 19. The national gasoline average has remained above $4 per gallon since late July, the organization said. Although prices typically decline in the fall, AAA attributed this year’s seasonal record highs to volatility in the oil market.

The release cited Energy Information Administration data showing lower gasoline demand and production, with overall supply up slightly. AAA also described those trends in its Oct. 15 national fuel report.

Diesel and electric-vehicle charging

The national diesel average was $6.31 per gallon in the Oct. 19 release, up 5 cents from the previous week and up from $3.63 a year earlier. New York’s diesel average was $6.50, down 1 cent for the week but higher than the $3.87 average a year earlier.

AAA reported an average public electric-vehicle charging cost of 41 cents per kilowatt-hour nationally and 40 cents in New York. The national average for Level 2 commercial electricity remained steady, according to the release. New York had 21,158 chargers, AAA said.

The organization estimated that 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles and said its 2026 AAA Car Guide showed renewed interest in electric vehicles amid high gasoline prices.

Ways to reduce fuel use

AAA recommended planning routes, avoiding peak traffic periods and combining errands into one trip. Other suggestions included using cruise control when appropriate, maintaining the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure and removing unnecessary bulky items to reduce vehicle weight.

All prices and weekly comparisons above are those reported in AAA Western and Central New York’s Oct. 19, 2026, news release. Prices can change; AAA maintains updated New York and national averages on its fuel-price website.
