Alleged Kidnapping Suspect Found, Arrested

OSWEGO – On August 14, 2020 at about 6:48 p.m. the Oswego City Police Department arrested Anthony C. Stringham, age 37, at a residence in the Town of Altmar as a result of an investigation into an incident that occurred in the City of Oswego on July 26, 2020 in which he was a suspect in a reported kidnapping.

Stringham was transported to the Oswego City Police Department where he was charged with one count each of: 

  • Kidnapping in the first degree (PL 135.25 sub 01)
  • Attempted Robbery in the first degree (PL 160.15 sub 03)
  • Criminal possession of a weapon (PL 265.02 sub 01)

Stringham was transported to the Oswego County Jail where he will be held pending arraignment in Oswego County CAP Court.

The Oswego City Police Department would like to thank those in the community who contacted us with tips on Stringham’s location as well as several local law enforcement agencies for their assistance throughout the investigation.

Those agencies include the Fulton Police Department, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and the Oswego County Drug Task Force.

The initial story (July 30, 2020):

OSWEGO – On Sunday, July 26, 2020 at about 8:46 a.m. the Oswego City Police Department responded to Kinney Drugs, 174 W. Bridge St. in Oswego, for a report of a kidnapping in progress which resulted in the arrest of one woman and police are still searching for the second person involved in the alleged kidnapping.

According to the police department, upon arrival, officers spoke to an adult male and adult female who reported to officers that they were being held against their will by being threatened with physical harm with a weapon. They elaborated to officers that there was a dispute over money and the adult female was forced to contact people to get money in exchange for their safe release.

The adult male was able to contact a friend for help who in turn called 911.

While on scene, officers identified Christina J. Hill, age 27, as one of the people involved in holding the victims against their will. The other male believed to be involved, Anthony C. Stringham, age 37, had subsequently fled the scene.

Officers are still actively looking for Stringham. Stringham is known to frequent Oswego, Fulton and Syracuse areas. Anyone with information on his whereabouts or has information about this incident are encouraged to contact police at (315)342-8120. Calls will be kept confidential.

Hill was arrested and was transported to the Oswego City Police Department where she was charged with one count each of:

  • Kidnapping in the first degree (PL 135.25 sub 01)
  • Criminal possession of a weapon (PL 265.02 sub 01)

Hill was arraigned in Oswego County CAP court where she was remanded to Oswego County Jail schedule to reappear on July 29, 2020.
