April 12 Auler Piano Recital Celebrates Chopin Bicentennial

Robert Auler, an award-winning American concert pianist, will perform an exclusive collection of Chopin compositions, 7:30 p.m., Mon. April 12, in the G. Ray Bodley High School auditorium, it was announced by Steve Chirello, president of the Fulton Music Association (FMA). There is no admission fee, but donations will be accepted.

Ray Bodley High School auditorium, it was announced by Steve Chirello, president of the Fulton Music Association (FMA). There is no admission fee, but donations will be accepted.

“The FMA, in cooperation with the Oswego State Department of Music, is delighted to sponsor this series of concerts,” Chirello said. “This concert is part of  the 2010 Frederic Chopin Bicentennial Project and we are honored to have Fulton as one of the performance sites. Throughout this year, Chopin’s Bicentennial year, artists will perform all-Chopin piano recitals at LeMoyne College, SUNY Potsdam, Nazareth College and SUNY Oswego. Auler is scheduled to perform: Three Nocturnes, Op. 9; Ballade No.1 in G minor, Op. 23; Ballade No. 2 in F Major, Op. 38; Ballade No. 3 in A-flat Major, Op. 47; and Fantasie in F minor, Op. 49.

Auler, who made is Carnegie Hall debut in 2004, is an award-winning American concert pianist who maintains an active national and international performing career.  As a winner of the Young Keyboard Artists’ Association Piano Prize, Auler presented concerts throughout Germany, France, the Netherlands and Denmark, receiving critical acclaim for his performance of Gershwin’s Concerto in F. He has recently returned from Venezuela, performing

with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra Tachira. He has also recently appeared in concert in cities such as New York, Detroit, Dallas, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Louisville, Santa Barbara, Rochester, Greensboro, Austin, and on the Dame Myra Hess series in Chicago, with a live simulcast on Chicago’s WFMT-FM Radio.

Auler’s most recent activities have included appearances with the Ying Quartet, the MIRO Quartet, cellist Julie Albers, and violinist Irina Muresanu. He was featured on the MTNA Convention’s “Rising Stars” Series, and is now entering his seventh year as pianist for the Michigan City Chamber Music Festival. He has also recently appeared at the City College of New York, conducted a residency and solo performance with the LaPorte, IN Symphony Orchestra, and performed on Xavier University’s prestigious “Piano and Guitar Series.” This April, Auler presented four concerts of American classical music in Vienna, Austria.

He is a keen advocate of new music, having worked with William Bolcom, Steve Reich, Leslie Bassett, Martin Bresnick, Kevin Beavers, and Frederic Rzewski, Jonathan Pieslak and Carter Pann. Festival performances have included appearances at the Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, the MUSIC 200x Series in Cincinnati, and Brave New Works-Ann Arbor.
