Celebrate Tourism Week With The Latest Oswego County Visitor Guide

National Travel and Tourism Week runs from May 7 through 13 and the Oswego County Tourism Office is celebrating by distributing its latest Visitor Guide. OSWEGO COUNTY – National Travel and Tourism Week runs from May 7 through 13 and the Oswego County Tourism Office is celebrating by distributing its latest Visitor Guide. Now available online and in print, the recently published guide puts Oswego County’s great outdoors, family-friendly attractions and various tourism resources on display.

The 75-page guide includes a detailed overview of various attractions, popular events, arts and culture, history, fishing, snowmobiling, diving and shipwrecks, motor tracks and racing, beaches, campsites and more. Readers can discover thousands of acres of natural resources, learn about scenic canal communities and find their next exciting adventure within the pages of the guide.

According to the most recent data available, visitor spending in Oswego County totaled $160 million in 2021, a 32.5% increase from 2020. In 2021, the tourism industry generated $21,154,000 in state and local taxes, and an estimated 2,420 jobs in Oswego County were supported by direct and indirect tourism expenditures.

Numerous attractions, such as the Oswego Speedway and the Salmon River Fish Hatchery, bring thousands of visitors to Oswego County each year. More than 25,000 people attended NAPA Super DIRT Week in 2021, and 50,000 people visit the Salmon River Fish Hatchery annually. Nearly 40% of all snowmobiling activity in New York State happens in Oswego and neighboring counties, and anglers generated $192,734,697 in total economic impact in Oswego County in 2017.

“Oswego County has a wealth of natural resources, rich history and fun events appealing to visitors and residents alike,” said David Turner, director of the Oswego County Strategic Initiatives and acting director of the Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning Department. “Between our great outdoors and year-round attractions and events, there’s something for everyone in Oswego County.”

Approximately 100,000 copies of the guide will be distributed at outdoor recreation and travel shows, tourism information centers, marinas, campgrounds and other local businesses and attractions throughout New York and surrounding states. Targeted areas include the Capital Region, Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, along with areas across Pennsylvania, Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

Along with the Visitor Guide, readers can also pick up the Oswego County Fishing and Hunting Guide. This guide highlights the vast fishing opportunities on eastern Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake, the Oswego and Salmon rivers and a variety of other tributaries as well as the more than 40,000 acres of public lands available for hunting.
